Wabash River Race 7.1.23

Due to the fact that I’m enjoying the “June Gloom” (now July) overcast skies of the San Diego area (as opposed to the Canadian wildfire overcast skies of our region), I was unable to participate in the Wabash River Race this past Saturday, but from the photos and info I received, it sounds like it was a challenging and competitive race. Despite a rain storm before the race (from 5 to 8 in the morning), levels were on the lower side at 2.7, humidity was higher, and the course featured a lot of suckwater. But apparently no rudder issues!

Attendance was on the lower side at just 7 paddlers, but it was also the 4th of July weekend and some may have been hesitant due to storms and wildfire skies. Who knows? But judging by the participants and times it appears there was some tough competition! Pieter apparently ran away from the field, but I understand Deb had a stout start and was able to ride Pieter’s wake for a short distance with her new boat. Jon held off Kyle in the Open class, while Skeet paddled a good race and edged out Deb. Roger also paddled well and managed to stay pretty close to Larry. Participants enjoyed a good meal afterwards at the XXX restaurant.

Thanks for hosting the race, Pont!
