It indeed was a great day and a great time with friends! Pretty much perfect weather, perfect water, a good turnout, and a fair number of critters made for some sweet paddling time. Seems like we had nearly a 50/50 split between kayaks and canoes this time; something must be in the air to bring out all those open boats. But speaking of things in the air, we saw not one, but two eagles this time: one in flight over us, and one in a tree at the end of Hogback Lake. Deer were in abundance as well, as some of us saw two sets of does and fawns cross the river ahead of us, plus a doe that jumped up and ran back the other way. Not to mention multiple examples of swans. One of our canoeists asked Craig what he thought swan tasted like, to which he replied “probably a lot like geese”. Something we’ll probably never know for sure… But we did find out that Louise’ chocolate cake is excellent! It seems we had a whole herd of b-day celebrants for July and August (including Louise), so she went all out: chocolate cake, buckeyes, and a bag of cookies! Anyone who left skinny can only blame themselves.
Many thanks to Mike for another great paddle!
Steve
