Golden Lake Paddle Report 7.2.24

They don’t make paddle evenings much nicer than this one, and a half-dozen of us arrived at Golden Lake to prove it so. Actually a half dozen plus one, as Fred showed up for a visit, but had nothing with which to imbibe. Hopefully next week! We paddled the standard route to Hogback Lake and back, saw some interesting critters (Blue Herons, a young raccoon, turtle on a log, and some other feathered friends), and had a light breeze that made the already moderate temp day feel great.  We had 4 kayaks, one classic canoe, and one outrigger canoe. But the big news was the two new boats to the group: Mike Davis brought his newly crafted 19′ kayak, and what a beauty it is! And then Lori showed up with her new Nelo surf ski, a kayak that fits her “just right” and leaves her smiling the whole time! Unfortunately Dan didn’t have his new boat yet, but just as we were loading up he got a call that his new boat will be ready tomorrow. So by next week we should see Dan in his long-awaited kayak upgrade. I think just getting the call made Dan more excited than I’ve seen him in years. 🙂 No cookies, but we had a great time paddling and some great follow-on conversations.
