You couldn’t ask for a nice evening than this one, and Grassy Creek was probably about the optimum place to be. Our motley crew of kayakers took off in the northerly direction, heading into Tippecanoe Lake and then into James Lake, enjoying the no wind / low 70’s weather this evening offered. I made an attempt to gather everyone together for a photo at the turn around location on James Lake, but this squad was a bit too independent; 3 boats turned around just before they got to me, and the others zoomed off to the side. Must have been afraid the camera would capture their souls. They forgot it’s the cookies that do that… But I got a few of ’em anyway. And speaking of cookies, Louise brought her regular chocolate chip cookies, but she also brought a batch of her fine molasses cookies – and they were excellent! I did see some wildlife along the way back through the creek. I heard a tremendous crashing off to the side, only to discover Bigfoot running away. Unfortunately I couldn’t get my camera out in time. Unbelievers would probably have figured it was only some deer or something, but the Loch Ness Monster’s cousin Vinny of Tippecanoe Lake told me otherwise… I also watched a sandhill crane standing on the bank as I paddled by. He looked a bit nervous, but never flew off. Nice evening!
