11.2.24 Fall Meeting & Awards Banquet

USCA, Indiana, paddling, paddler of the year, rookie of the year, Jeff Poland, awards banquet, South Bend, St Patrick's Park

We concluded our year of racing with a wonderful end of the year meeting on November 2nd at St. Patrick’s Park in South Bend – and you couldn’t have asked for a better day! In attendance were Brent Ernsberger, Jeff Poland, Matt and Danielle Meersman, Pieter Visser, Roger Crisp, Bill and Deb Kanost, Lori Schaffer, and myself. We had a fine meal, swapped lots of paddling stories, handed out awards, and discussed a few topics related to our organization. One area of discussion was our dwindling bank account. We used to assess a small fee per paddler at every race to support the Indiana Division of the USCA, but we had a decent bank account that were weren’t using much of, so we dropped the fees. But after several years of paying for Fall meeting locations and such, our account was getting low. So we discussed bringing back the fees. But Roger offered to make a donation to our account instead, so we will remain as we are, without the “per paddler” race fee. Many thanks to Roger for his generosity!

Following the meeting, we had beautiful 6 mile paddle on the St. Joe River with Matt and Daniel Meersman, Jeff Poland, and myself. With trees in stunning color and a fairly warm day (60 deg and sunny), you couldn’t beat it!

2024 awards and pictures are below on this web page. Congratulations to all, and to everyone who raced this year. We had a lot of good competition. In at least a few cases, it really came down to who made the most races (1 point separation in K1 Open!).  And speaking of races, if you are a race sponsor, please get your 2025 race dates in to me as soon as possible. Many thanks to Brent Ernsberger for all his work as competition chairman, compiling all the race results!

Thank you!

Steve
