7.1.25 FW Kayaking Group: Golden Lake

It wasn’t the “Golden Dome”, but it was a golden evening on Golden Lake. As proof, Fred even wore his golden shirt. But aside from the gold, we all had a really great time paddling Golden Lake, Hogback Lake, and the channel in between. Quite a few folks showed up we hadn’t seen for awhile, plus a bunch of regulars. We had 4 canoes and I believe 7 kayaks (if I remembered them all). Temps were about perfect, with a decent breeze keeping things comfortable while generating a bit of fun chop (but nothing anyone had any trouble with). Depending on whether you went straight to the end or circumnavigated each basin, mileage varied between 6 and 7.5 miles. We saw a blue heron greeting us along the shore of the channel, plus an eagle or osprey or similar zooming overhead in the same area. And another strange critter out on Hogback, an SUP paddler…  At the end of the line, Keith distributed a bag of Louis’ fine chocolate chip cookies and molasses cookies. A great way to spend the evening!
